Six Flags Over Texas in Arlington stays open for the holidays with the park decorated in lights, holiday shows and a good share of its rides running, including family rides such as the Mini Mine Train. It is the pick for families with kids old enough for rides, who might get bored at a garden light trail.

Admission covers the lights, shows, select activities and most open rides. Extras are paid separately: food, Santa photo packages and activities such as cookie decorating in Mrs. Claus' Kitchen or the s'mores campfire.

A one-day ticket is $69 online, and the Silver Pass is also $69 and covers unlimited visits and parking through 2027, so if you'll go twice the pass is the better buy. Both add up to $9.99 in fees. The park opens on select days only, so check the calendar before you go.
