Free holiday lights across downtown Johnson City and the Blanco County Courthouse, nightly Nov 27, 2026 – Jan 3, 2027, from dusk to midnight. About an hour west of Austin.
Every Christmas, Johnson City, a small Hill Country town about an hour west of Austin on US-290, covers its downtown in more than 2 million lights. The lights are spread through the historic downtown around the Blanco County Courthouse. Entry is free, so you only pay for the drive and whatever you eat.
The lights are on nightly from November 27, 2026 to January 3, 2027, from dusk to midnight. The organizers suggest arriving before sundown to walk the historic downtown and watch the lights come on. Opening weekend, November 27–28, also has a holiday market (see the Johnson City holiday market listing).
It pairs well with a day in the Hill Country: the LBJ National Historical Park is in town, and Fredericksburg is another 30 minutes west. The town was still updating its website for 2026 when we checked, so look there for event-night details before you go.
